Crested Ducks
Having its origin in England, Crested Ducks are one of the most popular forms of breed. Of course this breed is easy to distinguish from others because of the presence of crests on top of its head. They are mainly white and dark varieties whereas grey and blue varieties are also found. Crested ducks are mainly brought up for eggs or for show purpose and not popular to be consumed for meat. The drakes weigh about 6 pounds and the ducks weigh around 4-5 pounds. The white variety has a long and orange colored bill whereas the black ones have a dark grey bill. The body of Crested ducks is stretched and somewhat elongated. Crested ducks are often cross-breeded to produce new varieties. The crests therefore may not appear in some of the cross breeds. These ducks lay about 100-130 eggs per year but number of eggs may vary in some cases. Eggs are either white or with a tint of grey.
